Letter from the President

President MCV Alumni Association Happy New Year! As the MCV Alumni Association moves into 2007, it is impossible to do so without reflecting back on several of our proudest initiatives of this past year.

Foremost among these was our partnership with the MCV Foundation to provide significant funding for the renovation of the Hunton Student Center. Our $250,000 pledge to this project resulted in a permanent installation of a history timeline which will educate current and future students about the rich heritage of our institution and the legacy of MCV. I hope that you will have an opportunity to visit this state of the art new student facility during your next visit on campus.

Through your generous donations, our scholarship program has continued to grow rapidly. We have enlarged our school based endowment fund and introduced two new scholarships which will be awarded for the first time this year. The first, our Legacy Scholarship, will be awarded to the matriculating offspring of an Alumni Association Member. The second, our “Live and Learn” Scholarship, will help to finance the education of a financially needy student.

Of course, none of these accomplishments would have been possible without your help. Thank you for your support of the MCV Alumni Association this past year through your membership dues and other donations. If your dues are not current (check the mailing label of your most recent issue of Scarab), please take the time to renew your membership. Our membership program is crucial in providing the funding needed for many of our programs.

May our students, faculty and Association continue to prosper in 2007.

Sincerely,

George W. Burke III
